So, I’m curious to learn about the personal writing techniques of other writers that they use to inspire their creativity. During one of our online discussion of my M.F.A. course, the topic came up regarding personal writing habits, and how they inspire ones own creative juices. What fuels a writer’s imagination?
In the discussion, most writers stated they preferred writing outdoors, or somewhere visually stimulating, and peaceful. A few others, including myself preferred writing while listing to music; which included listing to classical music, alternative rock, country, and even pop. I on the other hand, listen to Motion Picture Soundtracks; background music in a sense. It’s like adding a soundtrack or theme song to your action movie script, or your horror short story. I’ve written many creative pieces, from poetry to flash fiction while listening to motion picture soundtracks.
These are a few of my favorite artists (maybe you’ve heard of them):
- Clint Mansell (famously known for Requiem for a Dream)
- Daniel Pemberton (Steve Jobs Soundtrack)
- Hans Zimmer (Inception & Interstellar Soundtrack)
I could listen to these soundtracks to write unique stories and still be inspired countless times over. If you haven’t listened to any of them, give them a try, and tell me you don’t feel moved or inspired by their music.
Anyways, I want to hear about your personal writing techniques, and what inspires your creative juices.
