Looking Ahead

It’s been a while since my last post, but it’s time to pick up where I left off, and finish what I started. Last I shared with everyone, I become a dad! The last couple of months have been filled with new-dad jitters; from worrying about whether my son has eaten, to having a bowl movement (I can’t believe that a real thing parents worry about, but I get it, now), and checking to see that he’s still breathing at night. He’s nine months now, and while I will always worry, I sleep much better these days. My job is…

A Father Now

The last few weeks have been hectic; sleepless nights coupled with endless joy. The day I’ve long awaited has finally come, and my fiancé gave birth to our baby boy Noah on July 29, 2018. Nothing prepares you for that kind of love; the kind that binds you to another human being that you helped create. I’m a father now. I haven’t had a chance to post in a while, but I’ve been working on a few things. I’m still writing, still working to complete my first YA novel. In between work, school, taking care of my fiancé, and now…

Baby Times Are A Comin

So, this is really happening. No way around it—my fiancé and I are going to become parents in just a few short months. We’re filled with a sense of excitement, and also a bit of the nervous jitters. This is so new to us. This is Amber, my fiancé: She’s carrying our son, Noah Delmar. Noah doesn’t know this yet, but mommy and daddy are working very hard to give him a good home. Both of us are graduate students working on our masters degree. Mommy is majoring in healthcare administration, and daddy…well, he’s pursing an MFA degree in creative…

Social Media or Social Life

The world today is much more different than it was 20 years ago. For that matter, it’s more different than it was yesterday. Social media has become the center around our daily lives, so much…that we removed ourselves from living them. When I was in high school, sometime in the late 90’s, mobile phones did not exist; at least not in the sense that they do today. Back then, we communicated either through landlines; home phones or public coin operated phones. What that meant was—you couldn’t travel any further with your conversation than the length of the phone cord. Yes,…

“INSERT COIN”

Imagine if life was like an arcade game. Imagine—if you could do it all over again by simply inserting twenty-five cents into a coin slot. Would you do it? I think about it. The thought of ever entertaining such a kooky idea seems absurd. But, what—if? Now, I’m not saying to throw all caution into the wind and roll the dice. No, not at all.  When it comes to the prospect of your own existence being called into question, one cannot and should not act hastily.  But, if we’re lucky to ever be faced with such a rare opportunity, would…

A Lover’s Bond

What does it mean to be someone’s lover? To truly love someone. To be inside of that person both mentally and emotionally. The physical aspect is obvious. But, how do you establish a bond beyond the physical—into the ethereal. It sounds fictional. But, I thought about what it means to be a lover while sitting in my cubicle at work today. I though about my fiancé; how I kissed her goodbye this morning, how I sent her texts throughout the day, or how after arriving back home I listened to how her day went. I do these things instinctively. Not…
